Tired but Happy

Standard

Spent the weekend in Alabama at a wedding. My great niece. A beautiful young lady married the man of her dreams. He’s a wonderful guy and is clearly gaga over her. It made me happy to see how in love they are. I see  great things happening to them as they make a future for themselves.

A Mini Vent

Standard

Just a small vent.  A week ago, I was attacked  by a person for no reason in a series of vituperative emails. I’m not a grudge holder but I have vowed to steer clear of this person. Now it seems like I’m going to have to take a stronger stand than I intended. What I’m planning to do may cause some hurt feelings but I have to look out for myself.  I refuse to be a victim of this person. I may be making an announcement here soon about what I’m thinking about doing- unless I change my mind.

I’m in a state of flux in my writing life. Not sure about this mystery I’m writing either. I think I need to get some perspective on a lot of areas of my life.  Not sure how to go about it since I seem to be too busy for my own good. Wish that new horoscope thing would make me be less of a Capricorn. Alas, it is who I am and I can’t seem to turn off the type A thing and the urge to overachieve. Makes me cranky.

Today Was a Wild Ride

Standard

First, I had an issue on  one of my cases that I thought was resolved on Friday. Nope. It reared its ugly head again today. I got several business emails from this particular person that one of my friends described as having never heard of customer service. I agree.  She was rude in the body of the emails, tried to say it was my office’s fault when it was clearly an error on their end (if I’m wrong, I own it and we did what we were supposed to do on Friday)- and then she signed her emails like some valley girl (and yeah, she’s in California)- it was “have a wonderful rest of your day!!”  AND those are her exclamation points.

On the third email, when she basically snubbed her nose at me and said, like a kid on the playground, “Nah, nah, nah,” AND had that “have a wonderful day” ending to it,  I went into orbit and called in the big guns.  This chick had no idea I had the trump card. Didn’t want to play it, but I did.   I know a person pretty high up in the company. I told him I didn’t want to be a lot obnoxious but I wanted to be a little obnoxious if I needed to – to get results.  I got them.  Results.  I don’t like to play that way, but I can if I have to.

Once that crisis was averted, I got attacked in a series of emails in my personal email from A DIFFERENT woman who I now believe to have some very serious issues.  Kind of scary how venomous these emails were. WHOA.

Let’s hope for a better day tomorrow. No having to go over someone’s head for results in business and no ugliness in my email inbox.  Either the personal one or the work one.

 Ciao!

Today is My Birthday

Standard

And I’m glad to  be a December baby. It’s awesome to share the season with Christmas and New Years. It was not always my opinion that this is a good thing but as I’ve gotten older, it has become to mean more to me to have been  born during this special time of year. I’m a capricorn and I embody all the standard characteristics of the sign. I’m ok with that as well- most of the time anyway.

I probably shouldn’t tell this but I will. Today, I am a half a century old and I’m ok with that, too. Nothing to be ashamed of there. I’m proud as well to have met my goal I set two years ago – to have my first full length book published before my 50th birthday. It was supposed to come out in January 2011 and came out in November 2010 instead. So, goal met.  Next on the goal agenda is a New York publishing deal. I’m not setting a deadline for that one, though.  I’m content with what I have for the moment.

Merry Christmas

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, no matter what you are planning or who you’re planning to be with, here’s hoping for a spectacular day and a marvelous 2011.  Lots of love and mistletoe sent your way!!

Tre-Fratelli

Standard

Tre-Fratelli (Three Brothers) is a cozy little local Italian place here in Pensacola.  We love it. Excellent food and ambiance. The wait staff is exceptional as well. I took my staff to lunch there today for Christmas. We also went there for a birthday lunch in the summer. We’ve been at Christmas before and I’m sure we’ll go again. The only thing that I could find wrong today was they didn’t have the fireplace going. Of course,  it was in over 60 degrees but I love the extra mood that the fire offers.

A great meal. I highly recommend this place. It’s in the historical district and is just a great place to eat, either inside, on the porch or at one of the sidewalk tables. We ordered a variety of things: stuffed pizza, cheese bread, alfredo pasta, calzone, Meatball marinara and some prosciutto wrapped mozzarella. Everyone had a great lunch!

Neglect Mode

Standard

Seems I’ve been neglecting this little ole blog again. I sometimes let life get crazy and don’t update!  One of the things that annoyed me this week was  a phone call I got from someone that will remain nameless. She never calls me unless she has a legal question- and she should as she is NOT a client.  Anyway, she called this week with a legal question for her daughter.  I wasn’t home and the spouse took the call.  Before I got home, she’d called again. How crazy is that?

I don’t plan to call her back. First of all, she’s in another state so I can’t represent her anyway. Secondly, and most importantly, in my book, the last time the daughter asked me for legal advice, she didn’t like what I had to say and didn’t speak to me for a year- so HELLO??? Why call me and why think I’ll get in the middle of that quagmire again??  Can you say- NO WAY, BABE???

Another Day that will Live in Infamy for Rock Fans

Standard

Today is the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death. I read an article where he was interviewed 3 days before his death where he said he didn’t want to be known as a dead hero like Sid Vicious and James Dean. How horribly prosaic of him.  I always thought the Ballad of John and Oko was kind of an omen as well where he says, “they’re gonna crucify me” – and he was- in a way.  Interesting that he must have known he wouldn’t die of old age in his bed.

A Day Which Will Live in Infamy

Standard

Here it is again. The anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. I can never forget this date. My family lost some important people as a result of WWII and so did a lot of our fellow countrymen.  The peace of paradise was destroyed by that first flight of Japanese bombers.  Not just the paradise of Hawaii, but the paradise of the whole of the US. We always thought we were safe in our beds, but this attack burst that bubble- literally to hell and back.

Take a moment today to have a minute of silence in memory of not only the people lost on that day of infamy but through the entire process of that war.
