Review of Here There Be Witches:

Here There Be Witches is a great YA read filled with snappy dialogue and more importantly, a wonderful message of tolerance and acceptance. But wait, isn’t this supposed to be about witches and danger and adventure? Yes, yes, of course. But I was actually really moved by the relationship between Myron and Cali. I wish every teen girl could have a positive male role model, one who was on her side, had confidence in her abilities, and supported her crazy and creative ideas.

I really loved the humor found between the character’s dialogue. Here are a couple funny ones that made me chuckle:

“Myron stood like me, transfixed. He spoke first. “Wow, if I didn’t know we were here to rescue someone from evil forces, I might believe this to be heaven.”
Alistair barked a laugh. “I think you’ll find, even though this is a beautiful vista, the inhabitants are so dissatisfied with their lives that they don’t even notice it.”
“Well,” I said, as I wiped my sweaty hands on my jeans, “that doesn’t bode well for the tourist season, does it?”

And this one:

“Now you’re in trouble, Myron. You can’t tell a girl she has mood swings without consequences,” Alistair snickered.

All in all, this was a great read for young adults, just a fun adventure with a positive message. I would recommend for youth, even as young as ten, because it is very clean…no swearing, no sex. Thanks to the author for writing it.

One chaotic week in October, former friends, a guardian angel, and a secret prophecy cause turmoil in the life of a teen-age witch-in-training. Cali fears the dark magic and the unknown consequences of the shortcut they want to take by casting the spell. Unbeknownst to her, Cali is the subject of an important prophecy. Her former pals have discovered this and have an even more sinister motive in forcing her to cooperate in their work than Cali can imagine. Her very life in peril, the young witch-in-training faces unknown dangers, relying only on her unpolished skills and some assistance from a guardian angel and a gentle giant.
