Review of Here There Be Witches:
Here There Be Witches is a great YA read filled with snappy dialogue and more importantly, a wonderful message of tolerance and acceptance. But wait, isn’t this supposed to be about witches and danger and adventure? Yes, yes, of course. But I was actually really moved by the relationship between Myron and Cali. I wish every teen girl could have a positive male role model, one who was on her side, had confidence in her abilities, and supported her crazy and creative ideas.
I really loved the humor found between the character’s dialogue. Here are a couple funny ones that made me chuckle:
“Myron stood like me, transfixed. He spoke first. “Wow, if I didn’t know we were here to rescue someone from evil forces, I might believe this to be heaven.”
Alistair barked a laugh. “I think you’ll find, even though this is a beautiful vista, the inhabitants are so dissatisfied with their lives that they don’t even notice it.”
“Well,” I said, as I wiped my sweaty hands on my jeans, “that doesn’t bode well for the tourist season, does it?”
And this one:
“Now you’re in trouble, Myron. You can’t tell a girl she has mood swings without consequences,” Alistair snickered.
All in all, this was a great read for young adults, just a fun adventure with a positive message. I would recommend for youth, even as young as ten, because it is very clean…no swearing, no sex. Thanks to the author for writing it.
