Tried to Tell You

Standard

Lawyer bear!

An “I told you so moment”

I can’t really say exactly what that moment was because I’m a lawyer and it was with a client. I sure wish that one had heeded my advice from the start as all of our lives would’ve been easier. MUCH easier- I DID tell the person they should have listened to me and the issue would’ve never arisen. Query: Why hire a lawyer if you’re going to ignore the advice?

The Funniest Movie Ever

Standard

Who loves ya, Victor?

Who couldn’t love this movie? It has some really great lines- Like when Igor got the brain and said it was from “Abbie someone.” “Abbie who?” “Abbie Normal.”

and the lines about  “roll in the hay” and “werewolf?” and “There wolf.”

The horses neighing whenever the housekeeper’s name was said was hilarious. Madelyn Khan’s entire role. There is so much to love in this movie-like the line  “put the candle back.”

This was just classically a riot. Loved it. Still watch it a lot. If you haven’t seen it lately, watch it again, it’ll make you happy.

Fictional Character Has to Listen When the Real Man Wouldn’t

Mayday2009-20

The one that got away broke my heart in two pieces and it has never really been the same again. He was my first love and he didn’t trust me. He believed a lie and left me without allowing me to explain what really happened.

I am mining this horrible experience in my 5th full length manuscript that I am currently writing. I’m planning to let my heroine really blast his a** in the scene where she confronts him and by God, this time around,he’s gonna listen!

The Movie That I Love and Could Watch Over and Over

Standard

A wonderful, heart moving movie

I loved this movie for the reversal of roles of the sisters, Marianne and Eleanor. Eleanor was always staid and reserved and Marianne wanted to “die for love” and was passionate about everything. By the end of the movie, Marianne, who DID almost die over love, found her happiness with a stable man that she previously thought boring but who was actually better suited to her than the one that almost ruined her.

Eleanor changed as well when she thought her love was to marry another woman. She held in her hurt over his engagement and let no one know her heart was broken. When she found out he was not married, she became very emotional and let her feelings shine through, even to the extent of bursting into tears. That was completely out of character for her.

Each sister found true love.

A Serial Killer’s Type?

Ted Bundy’s 1968 Volkswagen Beetle

I was skinny. I had long straight brown hair, to my waist, parted down the middle. It was thin and fine and most of the time, it looked messy. It was not the pretty thick hair that would lie nicely; it was too fine textured for that.

The serial killer, Ted Bundy, was arrested, in his volkswagen, about 6 miles from where I lived. I was the exactly the physical type of girl he victimized. If you look at the pictures of the girls he killed, I fit his victim profile. My mother was freaked out that he was arrested just a few miles away from our home. She thought I could very well have been targeted by him if he’d stayed in town, uncaught.

He appeared on tv in court here in Pensacola and he was very good looking and eloquent. I could see how a girl would trust him.

The Worst Teacher I Ever Had

Snow in Florida Cancels Geometry for a Day

7652 Historic Snowstorm Charlottesville and Central Virginia Reverse Sunrise

Geometry- 10th grade- witch. She broke her back and would be in pain and leave, be gone 3-4 days, we had substitute teacher (s)- never the same one 2 days in a row- Witch would come back- still in pain and give tests on material never covered in class, ad infinitum- Horrible experience.

One day it snowed- YES, in Fla, it snowed. We all were late to class and she dictated a paragraph that we were to write 20 times. It was HUGE- all I can remember is the first few words: “The snow today has warped my mind…”

Before we got it all down once, the principal came on the intercom and told us to go home. Whew!

And, I never did learn geometry!

My Weirdest Pet Peeve

Standard

The Grammar Bible

my weirdest pet peeves are language related. Ending sentences in prepositions, use of the non-word, irregardless, and people who can’t use commas properly (and you know who you are on the third one). All in all, not too bad. If all I have to fret over is these three things, life is good.

Oklahoma City TImes

Here Come the Brides – Bobby Sherman

To quote a Bobby Sherman song “Oklahoma City Times”

” I”m not livin’ my life to go out with a whimper but a bang

I want someone to remember me by deed, if not by name

Who cares if I own a mansion or just a cabin in the pines

But I gotta be more than just two lines in the Oklahoma City Times”

Sums it up- I want to be remembered for my personality and how I treated people. I hope I’m living my life in such a way that people would be remembering good times and a good friend. There may be a few people that wouldn’t but they wouldn’t be there.

My Favorite Quote of All Time

Standard

“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain an idea without adopting it” Aristotle.

This is one of the ideals I try to live by. I will listen to others’ ideas and opinions and consider them but I always stay true to myself. I believe in sharing our thoughts and giving everyone a chance to have their own say. I recognize that we may sometimes have to agree to disagree. That’s the best way to handle differing opinions. I might even like your idea and adopt it- but it’ll be my decision and I’ll give anyone the same courtesy. Never, never try to impose your own will on another person. (unless it’s your minor kid and you don’t want him or her to behave like a heathen!- LOL! and even then, let them be their own person).

The Best Advice I Ever Received

Standard

Trying to change is sometimes not worth it

books in a stack (a stack of books)

The best advice I ever received was to stay true to myself, especially as relates to my writing process. I’ve tried two different times to change the way I work based on advice from friends that are also writers. Friends who think the way I write is crazy- I usually write 4-5 chapters in order, then the ending comes to me and I write the last chapter, then the second to last chapter. AND, I might even write a scene that comes to me and insert it somewhere in the middle. I do not do an outline. I let the story lead me. New characters pop up and cause some havoc with the protagonist. If I planned ahead, I’d never have the fluidity to have the story “happen.”

The first time I tried to change, the joy was completely sucked out of my writing. I took an online class from a member of my RWA chapter. All the rules and instructions tied my brain in knots, so I had to let go of the teacher’s lessons and go back to my way. The other time I tried to change was very recently on the advice of another RWA chapter mate. She edits each chapter as she goes and then moves on. Tried that. Got bogged down at Chapter Two. Couldn’t move on. Edited the hell out of Chapter One.

That’s when I finally took that advice. Be true to your own process. So, I’m back to my wonky, wild, weird, writing style (How was that for alliteration?) and I am humming along again on my newest manuscript. Next time I’m tempted to change, someone please remind me that it probably isn’t worth it.
