“Nothing to Lose” a Book Review

Yesterday, I finished reading Nothing to Lose, by Lavada Dee. It’s book one in a series and I presume there will be three more (I hope so anyway) since there are three brothers of the hero who need their story to be told.

The heroine, Galynn is fleeing an abusive relationship. She collapsed in the cold, wet weather as she tried to make it to the next bus stop. The hero finds her and obtains medical care for her. He has always been a rescuer of wounded animals and decides she needs to be taken care of in the same manner (I’m not saying he thinks of her as an animal – he immediately feels empathy for her and knows she shouldn’t be alone).

The story moves along at a nice pace and it’s a great read. I like the way Ms. Dee has the heroine and hero interact with each other. The hero’s family members are super and very supportive. The writer does a fabulous job of showing the angst the hero goes through as the book progresses. I was brought to tears over his pain on several occasions. I like a hero who isn’t afraid to show his emotions and Ms. Dee delivers such a hero quite nicely in Cooper Blackhawk.

I highly recommend this one!

I Win!

I’m a superstar at any game requiring the knowledge of vast amounts of trivia. Trivial pursuit, Jeopardy, etc are my forte. I have so much junk in my head, it’s kind of a scary place to be.

I’ve passed this love of facts, figures, history, geography, pop culture, etc on to my second son as well. He’s captain of his school’s academic team and usually wins trivia night at Mellow Mushroom.

Arcana is our drug of choice.

The Dark Side of Valentine’s Day

Hi, Jillian. Thank you for sharing your space with me. I love your stories and am honored to be in Valentine Delights Be Mine with you.

A few years ago I worked as a cocktail waitress in a country bar (in the Boston area) and a bartender in a small hotel. They were both fun places, but you wouldn’t choose either place for a romantic dinner.

There were two nights a year I refused to work. One was New Years Eve. The other was Valentine’s night. That is the night when all the women who don’t have a Valentine get together at the local watering hole and try to drown their sorrows. It is also the night when they are easy prey for the “Smooth Move Lounge Creeper”. SMLC for short. The SMLC is a cross between an octopus, an ape, and a snake. They slither in when a woman is at her most vulnerable. The after effect of an encounter with a SMLC is worse than a hangover.

Then there are the couples who come in. The woman might have a date, but he didn’t spring for a nice meal in a good restaurant, instead he brought her for the all-you-can-eat free nibbles. It is always a special moment when he asks hopefully if it is “ladies night”.

Florist Melody Roberts, the heroine of Change of Heart always told her friends she hated Valentine’s Day, but the truth was her no good boyfriend never took her out. In seven years he never gave her so much as a card. She is finally dating a dreamboat and is eagerly looking forward to Valentine’s Day. That is until he didn’t ask her out.

Meet Melody and her friends in Change of Heart.

After the night they spent in the hot tub, Melody believed her new man wanted a relationship, but now it was Valentine’s Day and not even a phone call. Did he have a Change of Heart?

Change of Heart, The Coroner’s Heart, and Latte Love are together in Valentine Delights the Be Mine Anthology from Still Moments Publishing.

New Winter-Themed Anthology Out Today

Today is the release day for a new Anthology from Still Moments Publishing. There are four romance stories that are related to being snowed in. The cover of this book is pretty spectacular to me.

I hope you’ll pick up a copy for reading in front of your own fire on a cold winter day. A cup of cocoa, a cozy chair and a warm blanket will be all you need to add to escape on a few romantic adventures.
