Now Available – Music Hall, Music Hell

Standard

The anthology I’m in with my story called Music Hall, Music Hell is now available.  I’m excited about it – I really do love my story – it was fun to write and came together very fast. It’a tour of the music halls and bars in hell with a personal escort, Mephistopheles himself. I hope if you check it out, that you’ll let me know what you think.

Hall-o-ween Hell-o-ween

Got an email today with the cover of Hall-o-ween, Hell-o-ween Anthology to be published by Whortleberry Press. It’s an anthology with tours of the underworld. It will be available in September.  This will be my third Halloween story with them. This editor was the first one to say yes to one of my stories. This press will always have a special place in my heart for that.  Anyway, here’s the cover. See my cute little name right at the top on the back? NICE!

My story is called Music Hall, Music Hell and it’s a tour of the musice clubs in Hell, including San Remo Emo,  The Polka Pub, and Sam Fram’s Disco, to name a few.  It was a fun one to write.

New Story Coming Sept 2011

Standard

I have a new short story coming out September in a Halloween Anthology. The Anthology is called Halloween Hell-o-ween and it’s stories about tours of hell. My story is called Music Hall, Music Hell. It’s a tour of all the music clubs in hell. It’s a fun little story. I don’t  have a picture of the cover yet but as soon as I do, I’ll post it.

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I miss the days that my kids wanted to dress up and have a ball. We used to have a big party every year but it seemed like our friends lost interest in it and I stopped. It’s a lot of work because I never want anyone to leave my house hungry, so when it seemed like my friends weren’t interested in coming anymore, I decided to stop going to all the trouble. I do miss it but my little stories I write help me get in the fall mood.

One day, I’d love to go to Salem, Massachusetts  for the holiday. It calls to me.  I think it would be an amazing place to celebrate.

New Story Sale

Standard

I recently sold another short story- this one is called Music Hall, Music Hell.  It’s for an anthology called Happy Hell-o-Ween; Underworld Tours.  I wrote it in a couple of hours (after getting up three times in the night to jot down notes) and then let it simmer in my head for the day. I edited it that evening and submitted it. In 18 minutes, I had an acceptance.  The editor called it “a gem”-  made my day.

It’ll be out in September, 2011, I believe as it is a Halloween Anthology.  Check out the other books at the publisher’s website. I’ve got stories in several of them. I’m in Dear Valentine;  Christmas in Outer Space; Free Range Fairy Tales; Halloween Dances with the Dead;  and It Was a Dark and Stormy Halloween.  There are some amazing writers there.  http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/WhortleberryPress

Beware of Hitchhiking Ghosts

I love Halloween. I always have liked the freedom of the holiday. Dressing up as someone else one night a year and acting silly is something I enjoy. I usually keep a tight rein on myself and like to be in control so that one night a year of being different is always fun.

I used to have a party every year but stopped about four years ago. Attendance started to drop and I got tired of all the work (in the south, we COOK for parties). So, I stopped doing it. We do still decorate and we have a full size coffin, smoke machine and tombstones. I miss having kids young enough to celebrate with so I usually watch scary movies or haunted live shows.

Home From RWA

Just got back from Romance Writers of America National conference.  Am quite done in. Really.  But I came home to an awesome email- the cover for the next Halloween Anthology.  I have a story in it called The True Believers.  This is a wicked cool cover and I’m happy with it. Whortleberry Press is stepping up their game with these covers.  This one reminds me of the cemeteries in New Orleans.

I believe the book will be available Sept. 1, 2010.  The last one came out  a week early so we’ll see if this one does as well.

Lighthouse again

Standard

Had a plan for a story for a Halloween anthology- had the first ten or so lines rattling around in my  head for a few days.  It was going to take place in New Orleans- or near New Orleans, I should say.  At Oak Alley.  But, little did I know, the trip to Pensacola Lighthouse with Cynthia Eden on the 4th of July weekend for a ghost hunt was still lurking in the old noggin.

Started the story and lo and behold, these characters were NOT at Oak Alley, they were at the lighthouse.  Rascals.  Didn’t let me in on that one til the writing  process was underway.  I always say I like to be surprised by my characters and they got me this time.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Standard

My favorite holiday is Halloween.  It is a time to have fun and let loose.  I love all the decorations and apple cider.  I lived in Virginia as a child and loved, loved the change in weather and the smell of autumn.  It is a distinctive smell, one I’ll never forget.  I miss the change in the air and the coolness.

I hear it is SUPPOSED to cool off here overnight.  I hope so.  Florida is so not the place for a lover of fall!  But, here I am and here I’ll stay.  Enjoy the friendly kitty-  or is it a familiar? friendly_fairy_vintage_halloween_print-p228416560647255940836v_325
