Die Hard Five!

Standard

Being a huge Alan Rickman fan, I’ve always wanted the Die Hard franchise to bring him back as his brother. Alas, that’s not to be but at least this Christmas season, they’re bringing in his son. I also love that they are using one of my favorite bands’ music in the film. At about 1:40 mins into this trailer is the music of TSO- Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Now, if they could only resurrect Hans, it’d be perfection.

ArchDaily- UK Journal

Standard

My son has recently turned in his dissertation for his master’s degree from the University of Sheffield in the UK. He has also entered some design competitions. ArchDaily has published one of his (and two other friends) designs. So proud of his talent and dedication. Check it out here.

From Seed to Final First Draft- in 14 Days

Standard

I decided at the end of August to start a new novel with Venice as the setting. I’m totally a pantser when I write which is defined as not writing from a plot outline but from the seat of the pants. I usually start with protagonists’ names and not much else. Here are the notes I started with for this Venice story with no title yet. Fourteen days after I started writing, I had the first draft done. Ready now to polish and make it pretty enough to send out.

New story.

Vincente Canaletto

Charlotte Bolling

Venice. He’s a water taxi driver – they meet when he drives her from train station. She thinks he’s a lowly driver but he actually owns a fleet of them.

She’s an architect? Artist? She’s there to do research for something or paint?

He calls her Carlotta.

Yep, That’s all I had. I amaze myself sometimes when I think that from such a small seed, that a whole story can grow. This was a record first draft for me and I’m super excited about how it turned out- maybe I won’t be once I read it again! LOL!

Another New Book

Standard

Another new book by Jillian is out today. It’s a romantic adventure set across the globe. Here’s the link to buy and here and here (scroll down) are links to blog posts about it.

Naming Characters

Standard

My friend Jillian is blogging today here about naming characters. One of the hardest things can be getting that character name just right. Sometimes the writer has to change that name mid-book if the character just isn’t responding. How many times have you had to do that as a writer?

Crazy Day

Standard

Today, Tropical storm Isaac is supposed to make land fall. We are home since we don’t want to be caught out in it even though we are only getting the outer part of the storm. It’s crazy though because it’s not your typical tropical storm. We are having the dark, rainy, windy bands of bad weather but then, miraculously, we are then having nice, beautiful blue skies and sun as well. It seems to be a bi-polar storm. Let’s hope the bad bands stay few and far between.

Here’s hoping all my friends to the west of me stay safe and keep their power!!
