November 8th was the release day for this weekend read (Short story under 10,000 words) from my publisher, Sweet Cravings Publishing. This one is just long enough for you to have something to read while your holiday pie bakes. Expecting New Contract

I got the news last night that I’ll be receiving a contract on my story set in my hometown of Pensacola, Florida. The title is Til Murder Do Us Part. Here is a short blurb:

Margot Jenkins is a one-time coroner on a mission to bring her former brother-in-law to justice for killing her sister. Richard Higgins is the hot-shot detective assigned to assist her. Margot tends to lead with her heart and gets into numerous dangerous situations that imperil not only her investigation but her very life.

I’m excited to bring this tale to the world and share some of my favorite places to eat in Pensacola- my characters eat at a number of locally-owned restaurants that serve awesome food! I’ll be posting some pictures of the places soon.

30 years is a LONG time to love one job!

Yesterday, the 19th of October was thirty years since I took the oath of admission to the Florida Bar. I was twenty-three on that long-ago day and so excited to start on my journey to “Save the World” one client at a time. When I look back at the girl I was back then, I see someone who thought she was smart and savvy until the day she walked into a real courtroom for the first time to try a case and learned that people lie on the witness stand. They actually lie- actively and purposefully. I can remember how stunned I was at that revelation. It was a total blow to the solar-plexus. I quickly figured out I needed to factor that into my arsenal of skills and learn to cross-examine more aggressively and effectively.

Happy October- A Favorite Song From the Past.- Haunted House

I remember my mamma singing this when I was a kid. It’s called Haunted House and is the story of a man who moves in and finds his house has some other residents. I love the story in this song. Check it out on Youtube. AND watch out for haints!

This guy was a one hit wonder – I sure wish he’d done some more songs. He was buds with Elvis and Johnny Cash but never hit it big like they did. HIs name is Gene Simmons but he’s not the one from KISS.

It’s Release Day! Senior Assassin

It’s here!  YAY- I’m excited to say that Senior Assassin is out in the world. I checked on my publisher’s website for the link but the site appears to be down for maintenance. I found the link on Amazon for the paperback but not kindle. I found the e-version on Kobo and both at Barnes and Noble.

The story is reminiscent of an Agatha Christie mystery, a cross between Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. The storyline is intriguing, the characters charming, and the romance sweet. Chancellor gives an authentic view of what life was like for a “middle class” librarian, trying to mingle with “upper class” aristocrats on a luxury train. If you’re looking for something an old-fashioned mystery/romance, it would be hard to go wrong with Senior Assassin.

I thoroughly enjoyed Senior Assassin. Since I’m a big Agatha Christie fan, this book was right up my alley. It’s a refreshing change from all the blood and gore so prevalent in mysteries today. That’s not to say there’s no blood in the book, but Chancellor does keep it to a minimum. The plot is strong, the characters charming and well-developed, and romance sweet and heartwarming. This is the kind of book you’ll want to keep on your shelf to read over and over again.

Interior of the Musee D’ Orsay

When I traveled to Paris recently, I had a chance to go to the Orsay Museum. It used to be a train station and I wanted to share the picture of the ceiling as well as the overall ambiance of the place. It is the same as when trains made their home here before heading to all parts of Europe (other than the art and the tourists. LOL). This place reminded me of how I wanted the train station in my September 20, 2014 release from Black Opal Books, Senior Assassin, to look in the readers’ imagination.

The first scene of the book takes place in the station (the real one is also in Paris and looks very similar- Gare De l’est) where the Orient Express left from. Just imagine steam trains with their smoke wafting through this area and people running to catch their train with the women dressed in fur coats with gloves and pert hats and the men in their long overcoats and fedoras.

Think about the bustle of porters carrying luggage, the excitement palpable in the air, adventures to be had, and maybe some intrigue along the journey. Can you feel it? Close your eyes, picture it and soak it up! 2014-08-17 13.02.02 2014-08-17 13.02.22

Drunk Bee in Paree!

I’ve recently returned from Paris and one day as I was eating my jambon and fromage omelette with fries (that’s ham and cheese for you English speakers) and sipping a beer for medicinal purposes, this little bee decided to keep me company. If you’ve ever walked on cobblestone streets for days you’ll know what I mean when I say you need a beer for medicinal purposes. It numbs your poor ole feet pretty well. Keep that in mind if  you travel to Europe. It works.

Anyway, this bee was really jonesing for some of my beer so when there was a smidge left, I let him in the glass. He had a grand time sucking up the suds. In fact, he couldn’t seem to stop and he needed some assistance in getting himself out of the glass. Of course, once he was out, he lolled around on my plate in a stupor. Do you think he was drinking for medicinal purposes, too? Were his little feet aching like my big ones? Train Photo

This is a photo of an old train engine no longer in operation. It’s on display in the median in my hometown. Every time I drive by it, I’m reminded of my murder mystery with romantic elements- Senior Assassin– that is now due to be released at the end of September, 2014.  I love old trains. So romantic (although I’m sure they weren’t when coal smoke was coming out of the smokestack and the windows were open. I bet a lot of folks inhaled some nasty black stuff there. Haha.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but there’s a couple projects in my pipeline I’ll be talking about soon. In the meantime, I wanted to give a shout out to my friend, S. F. Chancellor, who has a new Young Adult story out. I haven’t read many witch stories, but this one, and the sassy heroine, Cali French, grabbed and held my attention. I was chuckling most of the way through as Cali struggles to come to terms with her powers while in the midst of crises. Add in one guardian angel trying to figure out how to handle his first assignment…Cali…and it’s a winner in my book!
